Sisters Quilt Show

Here are a few quilts that caught my eye during the show.
Can you believe I didn't get a photo of the whole quilt? Just a close up of these two little blocks. The tag said she had used fabric from her mother's wedding dress and other clothing from when she was little. A super adorable personalized quilt! If anyone happens to have a photo of the whole thing I'd love a copy.
You never know where selvages will pop up!
Cover to Cover book quilts.
Amazing detail!

Any chance you would recognize this as a row by row?! Me either! How ingenious!!
Brown and blue, the same colors I did my liberated baskets in. I think I like this color combination so much because I'm surrounded by it in nature.
I liked the machine quilting in the border. From a distance it looks very traditional
Plain squares with ric-rac running diagonally through them. Another terrific idea!!

I hope you've been inspired to think out of the box when making your next quilt.

Birthday Quilt

Here's what's happening with my birthday signature quilt.
Here are the 4 blocks I received during  Sisters show week. Thank you Andrea, Bonnie, Darlyn, and Debbie.
One more from Lori in the mail today. Thank you!
I left a space to add two blocks. One I received today and the next one I receive will go on the front. Any other blocks coming in after that will go on the back.
When I went to Eagle Crest I brought the sashing, cornerstone and setting fabric with me. The tan setting triangles are 2 different Primitive Gatherings prints. I proceeded to cut every setting triangle I needed the WRONG size! I didn't include the sashing when I was figuring out how large to cut my squares.  What did I do? Sewed two triangles together to make one setting triangle. Of course, they are on the bias and much too big. So when you see the outer triangles now you know why they are so funky! As soon as it is all together and my cutting area is cleaned up I'll give it a nice trim and it will be lovely! Thank you all again for participating!! It is going to be a very special quilt.

A Little Porch Time

Here's my latest section of "A Little Porch Time " quilt.

I had at least a dozen people say they wanted to sewalong, but only a handful have. Even if you have only done the first section, we'd love to see it! Add a link here or send me a photo and I'll post it.

For the next month let's piece A1- Auntie Bean's Stalks, Cut out A3 and A4 , piece D4 (simple 9 patch) and applique D3 Basket. It sounds like a lot but it isn't.
I hope you are enjoying doing this as much as I am.

AAQI x 5

Here's another full post of quilts that support Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.
If you've never heard of AAQI please click on the link and check it out. What an awesome organization run by volunteers so all the money raised will go for Alzheimer's research.
Here is my latest purchase. Hokey Pokey by Andrea Balosky.
Back of Hokey Pokey
The next two are named after long ago places my mom still has a memory of.
"Buffalo" Top made by Kathie Holland, quilted by Lori DeJarnatt
"Sheridan"
Kathie H sent me a little kit with all the thimbles cut out and ready to sew. Now I realize it was probably supposed to look like this,  although there was no photo reminding me of that! There is a reason I have not done a thimble quilt. I have tried and had no luck lining up the pieces. Well, this time was no different!Thankfully I had help.
Gabe was getting so frustrated with ripping, ripping, ripping she finally stuck that huge safety pin in that section hoping it would not allow it to move!! We were dying of laughter and eventually had a little AAQI quilt top!! Who knew a little quilt would need three people to make it!?
This next one Kathie H made as well and I layered and quilted it. I titled it "Off Kilter". The patches are liberated so I decided to do hanging diamond quilting, which went a little off kilter. It reminded me of my mom before she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, that something was a little "off kilter" but we weren't sure what was happening. In retrospect it all makes sense that Alzheimer's was taking a toll, but it wasn't anything we could see at the time.

The Warden
I have to say that this quilt turned out really ugly. I'm not sure I will register it or do a ritual burning in the burning barrel. The army green reminds me of jail bars that my mom feels like she has been put into with her assisted living. What I see behind the bars is fun, safe, happy, and peaceful.

Moving her has been a change for the good, there is no doubt, but it has also brought out so many emotions, expectations, hurts from long ago.

Eagle Crest Sewing

We all got a little sewing done while spending the week at Eagle Crest.

I made a good portion of this cat from Primitive Quilts & Projects. It is a design by
JoAnn -Wool Crazy.
I made a new pair of red coveralls when I got home.
Carol finished this beautiful African quilt top.
Gabe finished hand piecing Pink Lemonade from my sewalong.
Carla made this fun applique quilt- pretty much start to finish.

We were very productive!!

I thought it would be fun to take you on a photo tour of the Stitchin' Post. They do such a wonderful job of getting ready ready for the quilt show and all the visitors to the store. They really stock up, that's for sure!
They make sure there are lots of samples.

Lots of fabric!

All the books and supplies you need for classes.

Beautiful trim.
Lovely wool.

Beautiful yarn and supplies for knitting.

And then a bit more of this and that!

They even have a store set up at the high school where the classes take place.

This bottom photo was the raffle quilt. I loved it!!

I hope you enjoyed the tour!
