Kick Off Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show

First, here is my finished pin cushion designed by Primitive Gatherings. Mine is a bit more prim than the pattern, but that's the way it works out sometimes. I've stuffed it with walnut litter (from pet store) and cotton stuffing. I like the weight that that combination gives me.
Here's the first volunteers (me included!) to kick off the festivities for the Sisters Show. I get so much enjoyment from the show every year that volunteering is a small way to pay them back. This year we got shirts!
Here is the wonderful warehouse space that will be filling up soon with quilts from all over. We hung sponsor quilts which you can see in the black bags on the floor.
Quilt intake. This was also the first day to bring in quilts and the quilts that had been mailed were processed as well. Let the fun begin!

The Stitchin' Post was filled to the brim with products for quilt show week. The morning I stopped in was quiet and a perfect time to take a few photos. Enjoy!

The classroom space in the shop is transformed to accommodate all the products they will need for every class they put on the week of the Sisters show. Sue Spargo is coming and look at that great wool/ trims/books and threads in this one area.

More of the transformed classroom space.

And here are my Friday's Market day sew along.

Happy week!

Just for Fun

There is no resisting this face!I believe this one is Baby Bear.
My cuz in the ring.

 They are very attentive.
I assisted with the moving. Along my left shoulder in the photo you'll see #3 dog. He stayed in his crate. There is another hook on the blue lead for one more!!

Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Hopefully you think the quilting is Good (at least fun to see), the Bad, well, I've had enough of that lately, although I don't like to think of it as bad, only life with bumps that makes you a stronger person, makes your faith firm and really lets you know who is there for you in the hard times.
Here are the larger blocks from last Friday's market day sew along with Pam Buda.

Ready for the Ugly?
My sewing room! It is in complete and utter disarray! This is what happens when I start digging through my scraps.

I hope I can get it cleaned up this weekend.
Today I am volunteering at Sisters to hang quilts in sponsor's businesses. It's a fun way to start gearing up for the quilt show.
Early tomorrow morning I am taking my mom and nephew to a dog show to see my cousin. It's become a once a year tradition. Then after dinner that night we are having her over to celebrate her 79th birthday.
Sunday, we clear out the last few boxes of her storage unit.
I also decided I am not bringing the  Christmas wool project to Boston over the 4th of July. There is a little project I'd like to do over the weekend, then I can quilt it while away.
And I started training again, so a run is on the schedule as well!
Whew! Tired already.
Have a fantastic weekend my dear quilt friends.

Test Projects

Before embarking on a big quilt project I like to do a couple of test blocks to see how it is going to go.
My plan was to do the quilt Remembering Rebecca in honor of my friend, Jill Reid.  Here is the start to that quilt. The stars finish at 3" and with the sashing it will finish at 5". You can see the quilt HERE as it was published in QNM. I decided that 3" stars were a little small for me to want to make 98 of them! So this will be a small quilt of Remembering Rebecca and I will do a different quilt to remember my dear friend.
Here are two more test blocks using a Lori Smith pattern. I will be taking the fabric with me to work on during my retreat. (after 4th of July)

And while I was working on small blocks I did the latest installment (the smaller option) of the Market day sew along.

We will be making a whirlwind trip to Boston to spend 4th of July! I've been doing a little planning, although "whirlwind" is the best description. If you have any suggestions of restaurants/diners/coffee shops  in the Back Bay area I'd love to hear.

Happy Wednesday!

Wool Appliqué

Looks like I'm in the wrong season again!
Wool appliqué is so portable that I like to have one or two projects ready to grab either for a road trip or evening stitching. This is a pattern by Cheri.
Here's another little project that will be a wool pincushion. Almost finished the stitching then will add a little embroidered stem.

The sale went well! Not as busy as we would have liked, but sold a lot and shouldn't have a problem getting the rest out of storage before the end of the month.

I've been rearranging to make a little room for a bit of my father in laws and mother's things. I've rearranged wall photos and art. Do you know how long that takes me to do? I'm not sure if I'm still happy with the end result.
Remove art/photos/quilts/cross stitch.
Fill nail holes with dap.
Arrange new art on floor.
Try and make it look good like on the floor, but put on wall.
Dislike.
Remove art,
fill holes,
repeat......
Aargh!!

Happy Monday!

Collections

I wonder if my kids will say what I'm saying about my collections!

Before George got so sick my siblings and I had decided to sell off what's inside my mom's storage unit. We've been paying on it for 5 years now and it's time to let it go.

One main collection was Dragonware. Some of it is so beautiful, but still there is too much! Many tea cups have the lithograph Geisha girl in the bottom.

The fun has began and the selling starts with the roosters in the morning. Wish us luck!

Happy weekend.

Little of This and That

I have many little projects going on and for now I'm  good with that. In a few weeks i will be getting away for a few days of girl time and sewing and I'm going to concentrate then on one or two projects.  For now this is what I've been working on this week. (It feels like I have shown you these, so forgive me if it is repetitive!)
One more basket block from Wendy at Legend and Lace.
I thought these were complete,  but the green was not appliqued....until now.

All caught up on the Market Day sew along that Pam Buda is doing.

Was good to get back in the sewing room. Happy Wednesday!

It is Monday!

The last time I used my sewing machine I was hemming a pair of my nephews navy pants for my FIL funeral. I did learn to do the blind hem stitch with foot 5 on my Bernina. It's been a surreal week and much, much harder than I thought it would be. It didn't help that yesterday was Father's Day.
I finally got a frame for the antique block with my initials that Laurie gave to me. I have it hanging up in my sewing room. Thanks again Laurie!

For the lack of my sewing I thought I'd show you one of my favorite vintage quilts. It's a funky free-form log cabin in my favorite colors.

Love baptist fans and especially large ones like this that go in every direction.

And a little sugar sack to sweeten the pot.

I hope to get back to sewing. I've let so much go that I'm trying to get caught up on paperwork and life.

Make it a great week!

Quiltworks First Friday

Thank you all for your kind and compassionate words at the loss of my Father in Law. Because we are the only family that lives in town our home has been the center of funeral planning, family and food.

I was able to get away Friday evening to meet up with Bonnie and Randy for Quiltworks First Friday event and dinner afterwards. It was a much needed outing.

The Juniperberries group was highlighted and the featured quilter was Pat Wellman. All of the quilts were wonderful and were the style I make and enjoy so much.

My talented friend Phyllis made this to honor her mother)

I am not at home and not using my home computer so these are not cropped or organized.

As a family we had planned to go to a Mariner's game and that is where we are going tonight. I just wish George would have been able to make it.

Have a lovely day.

A Tribute

I would have never guessed I'd lose both my dad and my father-in-law within 2 months. Funny my dad was 4 months older than my FIL. Here is my tribute to George DeJarnatt
Yep, it's a boy!

He started young as a musician and played until arthritis made it too difficult. (He was still in his 80's)
He served our country in World War 2.

And became a family man. (the youngest son with the scowl is my husband!)
He started Madras Auto Parts in 1955 and worked with 2 of his children.  (Cory on the left)
He was the Patriarch of the family. We looked up to George because of his unconditional love, integrity, and honesty.  His love ran deep as he cared for his father, his daughter and his wife through their illness and death.
My kids spend a lot of time with their Grandpa. He babysat them as we went out of town on business or just to get away. He gave them lots of junk food, nintendo games and taught them how to play poker!  This photo was at my son's college graduation.
He loved going to watch the Bend Elks baseball game. Especially $2 night with his two sons.
My daughter had lots of special times and talks with her grandpa. I had to snap a photo this past Christmas when they both had their puffy jackets on!
Even though George was getting weak, my son took him golfing about 6 weeks ago.  Just the fact that my son would drive 3 hours to spend the afternoon with him meant the world to George.

I feel fortunate to have been able to take care of him this past week when he got so sick. It was a big thing, but such a small thing.
Rest in Peace George.
